    Hi,

i need a new 1.8" Hard Drive for my Toshiba R100 Laptop. The old one is a Toshiba MK4004 GA H with a ZIF-Connector.

After browsing for different Hard Drives i came along two different types from Toshiba:

    - GAL (better Technology, 8MB Cache)
    - GAH (2mb Cache)

And i would prefer the MK4009GAL over the GAH, but i am not certain if the GAL fits - because some shops claim that it has a LIF-Connector, some that is has a ZIF too ... Now i am confused :(

Can anyone help me with that ? Can i use a MK4004GAL in my R100 ? Has the GAL the same connector as the GAH ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tobias

The Toshiba docs confirm that the 4004GAH has a non-standard connector but it it not ZIF / LIF, which is a ribbon cable. It is possible, however, that there's a ribbon cable connecting between the motherboard and an adaptor with pins which fit the HDD.

The 8007GAH appears to use the same connector (see page 8 of the user guide). It also has an 8MB buffer.

Span.com gives a good indication of which connectors are on which drives.

    Hi,

    thanks for the infos :)

It seems that i have a ATA-50PIN connector and no ZIF.
Now i will only need a adaptor and i am done - or i find a ATA-5 drive.
But all in all i now know which drive to by ... thanks again :)

My R100 drive died on me and i hate this x60s i'm stuck with (the fan died after ONE YEAR!, got it replaced but other bugs bug me all the time, never again lenovo).

Did the adapter work and what kind of drive did you use? (The 50pin drives seems to be out of stock atleast in Sweden)
