    Bad links. Try again.

Are you upgrading the 160GB drive you have in your laptop now? Why? You're at the apex of the storage/performance curve as it stands (most storage with good performance. You get less storage, you can increase the performance, you get more storage and you decrease the performance, so the 160GB drive is at the "sweet spot")

There are 160GB 7200rpm drives selling already. So I suppose you are looking into one of these?

Seagate carries a 5 year warranty so I would recommend that.

Yeah, with the price identical, go with the Seagate.

thats funny... I posted this question in my two favorite computer forums (here and ocforums.com) and you guys all say Seagate, they all said Hitachi...

I do appreciate your responses but I think I've decided to go with the Hitachi... For one, this is a work laptop so if the drive fails, the company will just buy a new one. Secondly, I need this laptop up and running ASAP and two of the most recent 4 reviews had this drive either DOA or dying within a couple months.

    Thanks again.

The biggest pratical performance gain happens between a 4200 rpm drive and a 5400 rpm. The gain between a 5400 and 7200 is much less noticable.
