Hello, I recently bought my Acer TM4402 and what I first noticed when I ran CPU-Z, the cpu fsb and ram fsb are not in 1:1 ratio! Would it make a difference if I got ddr400 ram? Also, when adding a new stick of ram, you only have to match the pc-xxxx right? And the model/manufacturer doesn't matter?
This is my first post btw, and thanks!![]()

MrSquirrel,
Right now i'm running on DDR400 Ram and i'm not noticing much difference. Than the old DDR333. But If your adding a new stick of ram then Yes they have to match the PC 2700 or PC3200. If they dont match then the lower of the two will restrict the high speed memory. So if you have a PC2700(333Mhz) and you have a PC3200(400Mhz) then the PC3200 will be forced to run at PC2700. I'm not sure if you gain anything from running at a lower speed. Maybe lower Temp. But if you need more info on Compadablity go to http://www.corsair.com/ and they should have something on their site. -
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my cpu fsb is 200 and my ram fsb is 166, so thats like a 5:4 ratio? That's why I'm asking if upgrading to ddr400 would make a difference.
Thanks again for your help. -
Your memory speed is dependant on your CPU speed as well as your CPU multiplier and Memory.
Let's say you have a 2Ghz Turion.
Then you're running at 200x10, your next ram divider would be 11. So your ram would be running at 2000Mhz/11 = 181.81Mhz and the following at 2000Mhz/12 = 166.67 (DDR333)
But if you have a 1.8Ghz Turion, then your default would be 200x9, first divider would be at 10, 1800Mhz/10 = 180Mhz, and then 1800/11 = 163.63Mhz
Upgrading from 333 to 400 will have some difference, very noticeable? Probably not.
Need some advice..
