Hello, im new here and have some questions. I have a compaq 6910p that has been working fine up until now. It no longer charges. I took it in and put a new charger on it but to no avail. So I dug deeper into it and pulled the upper case and keyboard to have access to the mobo. I measured the voltage coming into the board. On this laptop there is 3 wires that run into the male end of he charger (the side that plugs into earth ground. Then there is the side on the laptop (charging jack?). I measured voltage on the 3 pins that are soildered to the board on the charging jack. The 2 outside pins read 19v and the center read zero. The center pin also reads zero on the chargers side. I did all the basics (pulled HD, ram, multi bay, keyboard and wifi card to see if anything was shorting). So now it looks like all the fingers are pointing at the mobo. Now here is the kicker...I have 2 6910p's and both have the same problem. So what else can I test to see if it is the board. If it does turn out to be the board is there anyway i can temporly charge the battery without it being plugged into the laptop itself. any help would be great. I need it to be charged somehow.

I think what may have happened is that your charger died, you replaced it, but, by that time, the battery passed below it's lowest threshold and will not charge up again (a safety feature of its protective circuits).

If you have a 'Battery World' type of store around your area, see if they can charge up the battery for you (safely). If they can revive it, chances are that that is all you should need.

Charging it yourself (in something other than the notebook) is not recommended at all. Very dangerous! Please use good judgement here.

    Good luck.

A note on this: if you try to force the battery to charge and the charge regulation circuits don't have enough power to control the current, leakage, possibly explosion can occur.

I don't know the particular charger in question, but 19V isn't far off the mark. If the laptop still runs off A/C and doesn't complain about low power/voltage, the charger isn't to blame. Also, if it runs plugged in, the power board (if it's separate) is probably also fine.
