Hi guys I'm new. Nice to meet you all. Hope to learn alot from you. My question is about my sager np6175. I want to add some more ram to it but I'm not up to date on computer hardware, I was 5 years ago but a lot changes lol. I know it used gddr5 ram. What brand and where should I get it from thanks! I like quality over cheapness.

Actually the "G" in GDDR5 stands for "graphic". It is memory for your GPU and you cannot change that unless you change your GPU. However, you don't want to do that. You want to change your system RAM. That is DDR3. You can purchase a Corsair Vengeance RAM module. Those are really good. Do you know how much memory you have now? It could be that you don't need more RAM.

Depends on what you are doing. What makes you think you are currently RAM limited?

Well this is what's goin on. I ordered a laptop sager np 6175. Base model pretty much with the upgraded network. I just was curious about upgrading it when it gets here in case I need more. It's going to run windows 7 . Just hoping it would run games such as league of legends and maybe some cod on medium. I. Just like my computer to load fast lol.

4GB is fine for Windows 7. 4GB is probably fine for your game, too (as its performance is more a function of GPU and VRAM than system RAM). More RAM isn't going to help anything "load fast" unless you are maxing out your system memory and swapping to disk a lot.

EDIT: As usual, the best way to have things "load fast" is to get an SSD.

Not unless your server or NAS or doing multimedia apps then I would go for it but if you going to Game then 8G should be fine as the GPU would do the workload of the game graphics. But make sure your using something like Windows7x64 that will use RAM beyond 3.5g x86 windows or 2.5G for XP. Otherwise more Ram then that would benefit you.

While 4GB RAM may be 'fine' for Win7 that doesn't mean it's optimal. (Far from it in my opinion).

8GB RAM is the sweet spot for gaming setups and 16GB has shown to be worthwhile - especially in minimum FPS rates and in load times (exactly what the OP is asking for).

Not able to search for those articles right now; but had to set this straight.

Also worth noting: why would you order a system in late 2012 with Win7? I recommend Win8x64 PRO for the best overall user experience in regards to stability, reliability and O/S 'snappiness' going forward.

    Good luck.

the general consensus here is split. i'd say 35% are adamant about only needing 4gb, with the rest thinking 8-16gb make the most sense in a gaming rig. i'm pretty compulsive about running lite so i'm generally conscious of my multitasking. i've only come close to using 8gb with game, monitoring utilities, and 5-10 tabs running. you'll definitely get by running the latest game titles on 8gb for at least the next year, but if you have $50 to do the 16gb upgrade aftermarket it wouldn't be a waste. *maximum fps rates and shorter load times are always nice. ;)

The more RAM you have, the more RAM apps tend to use. Besides, the more RAM you have, the more Windows can use for caching and even if you have an SSD, loading from RAM is still faster. 4GB is fine but 8GB give Windows more room to breath and with 16GB RAM being so cheap (just $45-50 with sales), I say go for it. :p
