Hey guys I have a Gateway P6831 FX and it's finally time to upgrade the CPU, I think. It's still running well so I don't want to buy a computer just yet. I am thinking about buying the T9300 CPU for $150, my three questions for you guys are:
1. Will this CPU fit/work/is it compatible?
2. Is this a good price?
3. Would you recommend a different CPU or a different course of action, ie. not upgrading the CPU?
Thank You

1) Yes a T9300 will work, I can see that Gateway uses the 965 Intel chipset
2) No I am seeing tons of T9300 on Ebay for sub 100 dollars though used.
3) For 85 dollars, a T9300 is going to be a pretty good deal. You could consider a T8300, but its maybe 20-30 dollars cheaper. All up to you but a T9300 is a good bet. -
Ask the seller before you buy is it oem or ES-engineering sample,,buy oem.
Cheers

Honestly there is nothing wrong with ES/QS chips. QS is preferred if you can get it.
This post is a good explanation of the difference of ES/QS chips. -
Thanks guys! I think I'm actually going with the T8300 as it is about half the price and is just a little slower.
Need some old school help!
