    Hello Guys
I am having problems with my laptop (see sig. acer ethos)
I purchased this laptop in 2011 in september I had there CPU processor 2630QM and 8GB RAM 1333 in past
I decided to upgrade this laptop so I purchased i7 2860QM ES (on ebay) and I have purchased corsair 1866 16gb RAM (NOT from ebay)
But I don't kow if it is since then but probably IS every time I start play ANY game laptop gets hot obviously BUT fans not behaving as they should or as they DID in the past when I had old configuration
When I played crysis 2 with old config laptop NEVER turned off!
NOW.. ,the laptop constantly turn itself off due to overheat ..
I only played legend of grimrock and laptops shuts down !

On my secondary laptop (OLDER) (see sig. Vaio AW) the games runs without any problems obviously in lower GPU settings but vaio NEVER shuts down !
Been playing Dead Space 3 High setings 720p resol. with no problems whatsoever !

Now I need to know if it is BY ES intel CPU ? or 2x8GB 1866 MHz RAMS ? or Nvidia GPU ?

Thnx in advance for help ..

Sounds like a problem when you repasted. I would disassemble again, repaste and make sure the heatsink is screwed in the right order and tightly.

Did this 3 times .. used three times 3 different compounds .. with no change ..
Screws are security screws on cpu and on nvidia with springs so when I screwing down there is locking where it wont let u go further with screwing down to not snap thread

I'd be surprised if the problem was with the ES CPU (it's definitely not the RAM), but you could try the 2630qm back and see what happens. You should also inspect your heatpipes, maybe one was damaged.

I think same it is ES where coulpe instructions missing send command to the fans ..
Pipes are untouched .. like new ..
Thing is I have sold 2630 long time ago to buy this crap ES .. :-/
And I thought always that ES's are good CPUs .. obviously they are NOT !

Pipes might be untouched, but you had to move them around when installing the CPU. Definitely try repasting the CPU and GPU (after cleaning both surfaces well with appropriate cleaner!) and see if there are any improvements.

    Here is pic of heatsink
    it is untouched ...

    And here is curious thing ;
I spotted one core (second core) is throtling from unknown reason !

You did read the part were he repasted 3 times?

As the rest I have doubts the RAM is causing overheat but RAM can crash your system. Swap RAM. I did not even know you could run RAM that fast on a notebook. If you OC no more questions that is your issue. Your quad is only 33% more performance than my ULV? Stop OC'ing.

    What is ULV?
I am NOT doing any overclocking tho..
I think the cpu and the rams doesnt collaborating properly
when cpu is max 1600 MHz and rams 1866 they overclock CPU automatically and that makes CPU too hot and then turns off itself
    I think..
EDIT: 33% is lot difference n?

I might be blind but why are we writng so much in the thread about overheating and probable cause while...
    N TEMPERATURE screenshot was given???
Provide us either GPUz log or HWinfo log while stresstesting by Furmark.

Furmark for CPU temps? Why not Prime95 and use HWMonitor to show min/max temps. Definitely need temperature readings to make any assessment. HWInfo64 saying "throttling" doesn't mean much to be honest. A temperature log even using HWInfo64 using the sensors feature and then log will help. But just a simple screenshot of the sensors page showing min/max temps will help too.

Also being an ES who knows what config it has. Older CPU's would bump the CPU speed with faster RAM if you couldn't set a CPU/RAM multiplier, and that's effectively what you're doing is bumping up the BUS speed which could in turn bump up your CPU speed. And CPU doesn't control the fans, that's part of the BIOS, but if the sensors in the CPU aren't right, then it won't bump up the system fans appropriately.

I wrote about HWinfo. But Furmark is for GPU. We do not actually know if GPU only overheats or GPU overheats because of CPU overheating.
I think that iif OP repasted CPU a lot... what if he forgot to do the same for GPU or GPU RAM. we need to know temperature information all over the machine.
screenshot of HWinfo would be fine too whil stresstesting with Prime 95 but I wanted to know what is going on while he playes.

Guys Guys come ooon .. dont argue here which software use first or that soft is not good ..
ill test it with that HW soft.. an ive got HW momitor pro there are penty sensors..
and of course cpu controls it there are sensors and sensor sends info about cpu temp and bios increasing fans speeds..

    OK guy
I bought some time to spend with this thing and ran stress of system symply by Dead Space 3 game and here is pic of few apps runnin and measuring hardware while playing..

The BIG problem IS that the FAN just ignores while playing and wont speed up

power drain your laptop. Set it to default settings. ifit does not help then try to reflash bios.
it may help if the fan indeed does not change its speed.

He probably means remove the battery, press and hold the power button for ~30secs to be sure that you've reset the EC.

Well, then you could let the battery drain completely, it would achieve the same result and you'll get to recalibrate the battery in the mean time. As for the 32GB, you'll have to look into whether your laptop supports 32GB of RAM, while the CPU can take it, not all laptops may accept 32GB. If no one tried it, you'll have to take the risk.

One member said he has 24GB gb :

It looks like I'll need a bracket and a cable to attach the old mechanical drive in the second bay ($30 for the combo on Amazon, it appears). I was also surprised that both RAM slots were empty, so I threw 16 gigs in (2x8GB modules) - it wouldn't boot into Win7 Home Premium, so I upgraded it to Professional and it recognizes 24 gigs of RAM now. One website said there were 4 RAM slots, so I'm curious if there's a fourth empty slot on the board, or if they limited it to 3 physical slots - 32 gigs of RAM would be pretty fun to have, especially for the ridiculously low price of $40 a stick! It's really nice having an i7, 24 gigs of RAM, and an SSD in a laptop with a monster screen and fairly thin dimensions. It doesn't feel like 8.8 pounds at all - one of my previous laptops was a 12-pound 17" Clevo/Sager, so this feels like a featherweight compared to that! Also found some part information on a Newegg review:

    Oh MY LIFE
I just start playing crysis 3 and laptop turned off again but after longer play ... So it wasnt problem in RAMS aah CRAAP ! :frown::confused2:
It is DEFO CPU too high frequency . making CPU very hot not enough to cool it ..
