So on my old laptop it goes on off on off with charging. it has ruined 2 batteries and is a total pain. It is not the psu adapter. It is the socket in the laptop. How would you fix something like that?

Yes, you'd need to replace the power jack or resolder it.

For now I would not plug the power adapter into it, you could fry your motherboard.

Some computer repair places will repair/replace a power jack for you but not all places will. Usually costs an arm and a leg too. At my work, we charge $160 which includes parts + labor for power jack repairs.

Someone on eBay does it for $40. He has lots of good feedback, and I'm currently getting one fixed through him.

rather not pay for shipping. I'll just go down to comm and get some tools from them during the work day i guess. I hope they won't mind
