    Hello everyone,

My laptop hard drive is failing on me and giving me the message 'Warning, SMART has detected that a hard drive failure may be imminent. Please back up your data immediately. Hit F1 to continue' So im guessing its time for a new hard drive.

I have a sony VGN-CR120E and heres what I currently use for a HD
    Hard Drive
    Toshiba MK1637GSX
    Capacity: 160GB
    Speed: 5400rpm
    Interface: Serial ATA

Im confused between the SATA and the PATA thing I see on the forums. Im just looking for a HD that is quiet, long lasting and a similar capacity as my old one. So what should I be getting?

Since your hard drive is SATA, you have to purchase another SATA one to replace it. A PATA hard drive will not fit.

Im thinking its the hard drive because there are buzzing sounds coming out of it every few seconds and that I have to keep the laptop on a 45 degree tilt to keep it working. Else it just hangs and nothing works.

Ive also tried doing the chkdsk thing and it wouldn't work if the laptop wasn't tilted. It also found numerous errors while scanning and tried fixing them

But if it isn't the hard drive... can someone point me in the right direction to fix this problem?

    thanks

Sounds like it is your hard drive.
