Hello all!
I recently decided to scrap my E6400 screen (14.1 inch, 16:10, 1440x900) to make a huge profit. Since laptops have been moving towards higher and higher aspect ratios (4:3 to 16:10 to 16:9), I decided to jumpstart the technology: I divided my screen very carefully, using "Horizontal Scissoring" (patent pending) and managed to isolate 900 12-inch (actually 11.96 inch) screens, each of them with a fantastic ratio of 1440:1 !!
Each of them costs the symbolic quantity of 720€. That's 2:1 aspect ratio per euro!! A fantastic offer compared to the typical 16:10 external monitors at 160€, where you get a measly 0.01:1 aspect ratio per euro. The first person to PM me about this will also get one LED backlight, free of charge.

P.S. In case you read diagonally, this is NOT an actual sale. It is a post meant to draw attention to the trend of reducing aspect ratios, which is a way to reduce costs to the manufacturer. And I'm definitely not scrapping my E6400, I like it.

put them on ebay, i bet someone'll buy them
-
I almost feel like doing so, just for the fun. But I'd probably anger some of the potential buyers. And in any case, that would be going too far.
-
I have a cracked 15.4 laying around, could you give me details on your "horizontal scissoring" technique well I'm sure I can't 800 screens out of it, I'm sure I can get a 100 or so
-
It's patent pending so I would get fired if I told you how to do it. When the patent is approved (why wouldn't it?
) we can begin negotiations on how much royalty I will want...
-
Sounds fair to me, good luck with the patent, I didn't get mine approved for the conversion process of a standard LCD panel to a 360 degree panoramic panel, there was a problem with the manufacturing process, hence the cracked screen
-
Priceless!! +rep

I read the title and thought you were talking about contrast ratios. lol.
Greg -
No, sadly Horizontal Scissoring does not improve contrast ratios, nor does it change the viewing angles.
-
haha I laughed ... well played
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Well done. You make me laugh

nice! I am really hoping they stop at 16:9 as that is just too wide... 16:10 is nice, but 16:9 9 is pushing it for people who do work on there computers.
-
In my opinion, for having two windows side-by-side (I have that sometimes) 16:10 is great. Most of the time though, I have only one window while working, and for that 4:3 was great.
-
I think windows 7 might make them even wider, the whole drag to left/right side of screen and split down the middle thing, maybe a 8:3 (16:6) aspect ratio being like to 4:3 screens together.
-
God I hope it doesn't come to that.

there's allready a tv comming with 2560x1080.. that's 16:6.75 or so?
i could actually see uses for that (as it's more or less just the same setup as two 19" (which are not 4:3 normally but 1280x1024 => 5:4)
has anyone actually noticed that they introduced, not long ago 5:4 BECAUSE IT WAS MORE USEFUL TO WORK?!
-
im personally a fan of the 16:10 ratio, hope we dont stray too far away. I thought you were serious for half a second until I saw what a great deal you were offering on them =)
-
I saw an 56in LCD with a 21:9 aspect ratio, is that wide enough for ya?
-
Yeah, my intention was exactly to start folks on the "another ad?" more and slowly drift them into the "heh, good joke" mode. I didn't get any PMs about it yet, that's a good sign of intelligence from the folks here at NBR
