Ok so last week I got my LCD replaced by ASUS under warranty for weird white spots that were there for the longest time. 8 days later (yesterday), I turn on my laptop and theres a vertical green line of stuck pixels. It went away temporarily after a restart but today i received a blue line in the same spot and now that same line is purple.

So, lemon screen or they gave me a refurbished one? I have to get this fixed again. What a pain...
I have yet to check it is the LCD, though im 99% sure it is. I'll connect it to my TV later, if the line is on my TV that probably means its my gpu right?

Yes if you get lines on an external display then your GPU/motherboard/RAM is bad. If you don't then you got a bad LCD and you will have to RMA it to ASUS again.

Is it normal for it to be a GPU problem? I mean the line is ALWAYS there. Its not any GPU intensive tasks that cause it.

If they just changed your LCD and now you are getting weird colored lines, I would have to say the LCD is going to be at fault. With a bad GPU you would have lines at POST, and usually the entire screen is fulled of garbled lines and funky colors. But let ASUS take care of it, you are still under warranty.

Ok so my TV shows it normally. I guess its the LCD then. Better than a GPU/Mobo problem i suppose.
I feel duped on the LCD though, going bad after 8 days...

Yeah, as Tsunade_Hime said, GPU issues go much beyond a stuck pixel. In most cases you will get no image or a mix of random colors (garbage).

If you see a fixed pattern (vertical/horizontal line) that is always an LCD issue.

    Ok thanks.
btw is there any way to prevent this in the future because my last LCD had odd white blotches on the side. This line is definitely worse because its smack in the center and its way more visible than the tiny white spots.
I carry around my laptop a lot but I have it in a sleeve. Thing is, the sleeve is a 15" one which was meant for my old laptop, so about an inch off the top sticks outta the sleeve. But I put that in my laptop bag. I think there is enough protection if my books press on it. The lid is always facing my back when I carry it around, so my books would put pressure on the bottom of the laptop which is already protected by the cushy sleeve. I dunno why i keep getting screen problems otherwise it would be a great notebook.

Here is what my screen looks like.

Yeah man that is a classic symptom of a defective LCD panel. Maybe you should get the LCD fairy to spread some good luck on ya...

Do you think if i left this LCD under my pillow I would get some of that luck...

Also any insight as to why an entire line just came outta nowhere. I understand a single dead/stuck pixel. My old LCD with blotches had one of those too but it was barely noticable since its a 1080p screen
Did i somehow short the LCD? normally i plug in the power and turn on my laptop all the time.

I don't know the LCD inside technique enough but that line looks familiar, it might go away temporarily if you squeeze top or bottom of the display where the line is. Basically something isn't properly connecting inside where the line is.

Yeah I have tried squeezing but I'm a bit too scared of cracking the screen. I'll just have ASUS do their stuff on monday and yeah...

That's the problem, you don't know how hard you can squeeze. Until it breaks, then you know the amount is "little less than that" :D
