Hi I was just looking to get a second notebook thats really cheap and I was looking at a brand new ASUS laptop that came out.
Its the X58 and its running strangely enough on a 1.2 Ghz Celeron 220 cpu!
    You can see it here
    http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/ASUS_X58C_AP008A_X58C-AP008A/version.asp

Its only 300euro and actually doesnt look bad. But how would the performance of this new processor be? Especially considering the fact that the laptops comes with Vista..???
I heard the CPU is 30+% faster than the 1.6Ghz Intel Atom but uses more power..

Id be interested to hear what your opinion are on this new processor and notebook..

It's probably not going to be great. But it won't be worse than an Atom. If you've seen benches of the Celeron 430, I think you can kind of get a feel for what performance on this thing'll be like.

yeah but the thing about this one is that it supports 64bit..
But I think I would just go for the model that comes with the Intel Dual Core T3200. Performance would be way better and it's €80 extra. With that you also get upgraded to Vista Premium and 2gb RAM instead of 1gb and Vista Basic

Yes... but the 410 is a completely different chip with a significantly different (and older) architecture. It's also a dedicated mobile processor (unlike the 220 which seems to be a repackaged desktop part), so it's bound to be slower. That's not to say the 220 is any good, but this isn't a fair comparison.

Seeing as the rest of the Celerons in that series are 64bit, what's so unusual? Nonetheless, I think it'll be wise to choose the T3200 over the Celeron. A Celeron is a Celeron and is still a Celeron no matter how you look at it :D
