    Hope you can help.

I picked up my Crucial M4 brand new from amazon a matter of weeks ago. I literally created the partitions and installed no format or anything silly. Tonight my laptop goes haywire and locks up with a kernal error randomly. I switch it back on and there is a lot of noise coming from the SSD and this is what I am faced with under a HDD Tune Error scan.

Is my SSD shot? Should I return it under warranty? Or are a few bad sectors nothing to worry about?

Any new drive with Bad sector = RMA imo. Even HDD.

Its weird because Crystaldiskmark is saying everything is fine? Maybe HDDTune is out of date or something. I found out that the Aion free to play installer was causing the Kernal data stack error each time I ran it so it was not random.

HDtune isnt really designed for SSD's.

Maybe try windows chk disk or something?

Ill do a scan of mine as well later today.. see if i get errors too

I just did and it found bad clusters and fixed them.

Everything is running fine however just those bad sectors freaked me out seeing as this is a new drive. Would rather not send it back if I can :(

I bought the same ssd recently as well from amazon. Just ran the same scan and I didn't have any bad sectors.

Thanks for the response I am going to return it.

I have a 2 year old kingston SATA II which has no bad sectors so its not on.

EDIT: Very easy to return on Amazon. Going get a refund and stick with my old Kingson SATA II SSD Now as the old stuff seems to be more reliable.

    +1 for your replies.

The drive is brand new, and it has bad sectors. There's something not right about that, and an Amazon return is about the most painless thing you can do.

Don't worry, I just went through 3 faulty HDDs in a row through Amazon I just kept returning them until I got one that worked. I was beginning to think it was my sata controller or mobo that was failing until I got the fourth one that works as it should now.

The first two were momentus 750xt's, the third was a WD black 500gb, all of them had bad sectors and failed the diagnostic tests basically right after I hooked them up, they also made funny noises like chirping and clicking.

I hate buying defective products, especially online. You wait for the item to arrive, then you can't use it for another several days. Just bought a cell phone that worked for 2-3 hours before it would not power on or charge the battery :(
