Hello again. Had this DV5-1235dx with a broken screen. Ordered this replacement screen. It got here today I've installed it and it does not seem to be working quite as it should. All of the color displays ok but it seems like something is off with the black/white. The background of the Vista load screen is grey when it should be black. Everything is kind of whitish but dark. Black text has small vertical white lines through it.

I've double checked all my connections. There are 5, the main vga plug on mainboard, another plug which splits into a 2 pin black/red and a 4 pin that plugs into a piece of PCB, on the other side of that PCB is a 2 pin pink/white plug, and last the plug on the back of screen where the connection for the cable goes.

If I hook my monitor up to the VGA port everything displays fine and clear on that. Anything I'm missing here? Should I contact the seller and get an exchange?

Ya i think you need to return it,sounds like it might be bad, just make sure you give the company your screen's serial#,its on back,it'll make it easier for them to get the right one.

Are you sure you are running it in the right resolution (1680x1050)?

Phil: I tried all available resolutions from 800x600 all the way up to 1680x1050. The problem gets successively worse as you increase resolution.

Razorjack: That is what I figured :( Guess the project waits a couple more days now.

Is there any chance this could be a bad cable or inverter? I can replace either part for $15. I know symptoms of a bad inverter is usually black screen but just want to make sure before i go through the trouble of exchanging the screen. Don't know if it's possible but could the original screen cracking have damaged one of those parts?

did u install graphics driver? this vista issue might be due to drivers being uninstalled or something.. although a faulty screen looks like the issue..

yeah reinstalled graphics drivers to make sure but the problem is not just in windows you get the same when you go into the BIOS screen or see the HP logo on boot though it is less obvious due to the low res and solid colors.

sending an email to seller now. thanks for helping confirm guys.

+1 for bad screen, this definitely sounds like a defective one or one that doesn't quite line up electrically to yours. The rest of your laptop should be fine. I remember somewhere on these forums someone who was replacing their screen had the same problem.
