Hello there forum goers, I currently own a inspiron 6000 with 1.5ghz celeron M 512mb ram and a 40gb 5400HD integrated Intel graphic to. I'm thinking of buying a 1gig stick of ram and a bigger 7200hd. What kind of performance gains could I expect here. I don't expect to be playing oblivion on this machine, but it would be nice to play CS 1.6 at 640x800 and not have it chug along.
Would this upgrade be worth the 200$. Thank you for any advice

    It's absolutely worth 200$.

In my experiences with RAM upgrades, the jump from 512>1024 is massive (although not as big as 256>512 or more) and improving hard drive speeds mean faster boot-up and overall load and access time at the cost of reduced battery life.

I hear that more ram means better battery life, so it might even out. I kind of doubt that more ram improves battery life, but I keep hearing that.

the extra RAM alone would make CS go much faster. The upgraded hard drive... load times will be better, and you'll have more space, but it won't make the actual game run better.
