I just received my Samsung Story Plus 2 TB!

I connected it to my eSATA port and well.. ive tried copying the systemfiles
so i could restore them once i formatted it to NTFS.

But basically the copying of the files is taking forever.. the file size is a total of 225 MB,
and it has been calculating and doing stuff for over 10 minutes now.

Windows 7 recognized the disc and installed a driver automatically.. said it should be working now.

I want to check if my eSATA port is even working.
How do I start? And other suggestions to make my new HDD word properly are also welcome.

    thanks

Did you reboot after it detected the drive? First time you add a new drive it usually asks to do that even if it doesn't it's a good idea.

I would right click 'computer' choose 'manage' then select 'disk management' and see if it shows up there.

I tried that. No luck. It gets recognized and all but it fails to cooperate when copying files from and to the drive.

Currently connected it through USB2.0 ... I formatted it with loss of the system files. Not a problem; they can be downloaded at the samsung site.

I am copying 30 GB of data to the drive now. Will disconnect it and connect it with eSATA to see how it will resond.

Also, is it possible that USB ánd eSATA need to be connected simultaneously in order for eSATA to work correctly?

The esata port won't power the drive, so yeah you will need to have it connected with the usb as well. If it has an external power supply you could use that as well.

The drive needs to be connected to an external powersource at all times yes.

I just finished testing the eSATA connection.. and well, everything fails to work flawlessy. :( Im having serious doubt wether my port is ok.

How do i know for sure?

USB 2.0 does work like its supposed to.

I've definitely established that the problem lies within eSATA.
The drive folder will freeze as soon as i try to enter is.

Either its my motherboard, or the drive itself.
But because the USB works fine on the drive im thinking it's my pc thats incompatible for some frustrating reason..

Is it true that only the chipset drivers matter for eSATA? I have the PM55, and as far as I know my drivers are up to date.
Please take a look at all my drivers here, see if you can establish a problem of some kind?

Try another cable. Someone else had an issue similar here and changed the cable and all was good.
