Well i have hp pavilion dv9000 and it came with 2x100 gb 5400 rpm hdd's , now i am feeling shortage of space for my files (yeah seeding freak :D ). My old drives have a sound of craking and it anoys me then using zalman nc2000 i almoust dont hear my fan. So i want to ask if its better to buy like 2x250 gb hdds inside lapopt or to buy an external one 500~1 TB . Pls advise me  More info about externals would be welcomed.

I would prefer an external HDD... and these days even the 1TB are coming in a really low price range (at least here!)...

Best go for the internal HDDs, as an external HDD with USB 2.0 will be only good enough for storage, and performance will be - useless (Portability ?). The externals with eSATA, or FireWire 400/800 will set you back alot.

    A 250GB 7200RPM will cost you about $80-90, and a 250GB 5400RPM (Seagate 5400.5/WD2500BEVT) will cost you around $60-70. So ?

Internal for sure. It'll be cheaper overall and you'll still have the old hdd's that you could always throw into external enclosures.

    Anyway, why 250GB when the 320Gb 5400 hdd's are $90ea.

    Hmm,
If you do not need to actively use the whole data on your Hard Drive, I definitely recommend getting external drives like WD Mybook.

I just looked at prices on those 1TB external HDD's. I'm going to have to agree with mujtaba.

If you don't need to carry the data around, then I suggest you get one of these:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822165075

They also have a 2 TB version.

    Advantages:

    • Supports RAID 0 and RAID 1
    • Share with multiple computers across the network easily
    • It has both Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2.0 ports
    • Pre-loaded with dual 500 GB 7200 RPM drives (1 TB version)
    • Excellent and easy-to-use built-in software
    • Can add additional storage by attaching a USB 2.0 hard drive

For the record, the built-in software is very good, you can create different types of user accounts and share permission.

Buffalo Technology is a Japanese brand, but they're globally available.

If you don't need the network version, they also have the regular DriveStation.
