I recently bought a Seagate 500gb 5400.6 2.5" and upgraded (by cloning) onto my Sony Vaio SR 290. Everything is working fine on the laptop. However, my old drive is inaccessible because I can't find the drive - it's not showing under "My Computer." I also tried using other programs that can partition drives with no luck either.

The drive is a Toshiba 120gb, which I believe to be the standard on Sony SRs. The manual on the HardDrive Closure told me to go to the factory website for help but I cannot find anything on the Toshiba website or the Sony website. I am wondering if you guys can help me in finding the drive and partitioning it.

    Thanks.

    What??? :)

This is a notebook, right? With two HD slots internally? With both HD's (old and new) installed and connected?

    How is this drive connected?

Some cloning software will wipe the original HD once it thinks it has cloned properly to the new drive. If this is the case for you (and of course the HD is physically connected to the system in question) then try this:

Right Click on My Computer, click Manage, select Disk Management.

You may have to scroll down to see your Toshiba 120GB HD as Disk 1 or 2 depending on what else is attached as a 'drive' on your computer.

If you do see it (make sure it is the 120GB disk and verify by right clicking (on the Disk 'X' gray box, where 'X' is the number the drive shows as) and selecting properties), then you probably just need to initialize it for My Computer to see it.

Select it and right click, click 'initialize' and you should now be able to format it and access it through My Computer.

If I'm off in left field here with my guess, give us some more information (details are king!) to work with. Especially details about how the Toshiba is connected.

    Good luck.
