I'm not a newbie to forums, i searched but I was in kinda a hurry to write this.. SO i guess if I get flammed for not searching it's not going to be the end of the world..

I got a insp. 1520 a month or two ago and want to upgrade it's ram, I feel I can get a little more out of it then. I got the free ram upgrade that came with it (2bg) and wanted to know if I could get 3bg or 4bg of aftermarket ram. I'm sure it's much better cause I've heard dell's DIMMS are not that good compared to other one's you can buy. This computer's kinda maxed out besides ram and Hd since they were free and thought I'd upgrade them anyways down the line.

ALso what hard drive would you all recommend I've got the 160gb 5400rpm (free lol)? segate i beleive is pretty good fro what I've heard.. But I dont want to spend too too much on this.. something around 120 hd 7200 rpm +..

Thanks alot if ya can help me out.. Kinda just wanting some answers about what kind and if it would really help.

One more question.. Would my ram that same with the computer fit into a inspiron 1505 that's only got 1 gb? take out all it's ram and replace it with my 2 sticks of 1 gb each?

P.S. I do photo editing, drawings on solid works and other CAD programs and a little computer programming. So I would like for things to run smoothly if possible.. Thanks alot guys.

You can use more than 2 GB of RAM in the 1520. The type of RAM you require is 200-pin SODIMM DDR2. There are a few frequencies available, but the best to go with is the 667 MHz RAM (PC 5300/5400). The replacement of the RAM is very simple, and usually, its stored underneath a panel, on the underside of the notebook.

You can use the RAM from your new notebook, in the older Inspiron. The notebooks are similar, and the RAM installation should also be a similar process. A good hard disk to go with is a 100 GB 7200 RPM one, from either Hitachi or Seagate. Both are very fast and reliable.

Thanks.. just had a friend I was going to give my current RAM to.. I will be removing both sticks too when I do so..

Alright, how much would I be looking at going from stock RAM going to some aftermarket sticks say:
1gb how much for one stick
2gb how much for 1 stick

anyone got a link where to buy some good ram from with good deals?

Anyone about the Hard drives? Will it make a big difference in the way my computer runs from the factory 160 gb 5400 rpm? I'll actually only have 80gb free probably after I get it vista on there right? thanks

Yea I'm from the US so that's a good thing I guess..
so any of these would be alright?

Any brands on RAM that you would prefer? I found a couple of that one RAM deals thread you gave me.

    Crucial- http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=10006235
    transcend- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820208323
Not sure about this one? http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=T667SB2G_M

Like what brand or stick would you buy if it were you? Less than say around 100 bucks a 2gb stick.. I'll get a total of 4gb (2x2gb sticks) I'll be able to notice it ALOT over my stock ones. Thanks alot..

But I've been reading and wil i be able to use 4bg of ram with my set up or would 3gb be the better bet?

Crucial memory is very good memory, and generally, will work fine. If the price difference isn't too big, then I would recommend going with that memory. Transcend memory is okay, and most people haven't had problems using it, but its better to be on the safe side. If you do choose to go with any memory, make sure a resonable return policy is in place. If you do have any problems, then at least you can return the RAM for a refund or exchange.

Notebook hard disks are always 2.5" disks. Make sure that you only look for those hard disks, as the larger desktop 3.5" disks will not fit. If your talking about the capacity of the hard disk, then there are some good 100 GB 7200 RPM disks by both Seagate and Hitachi. Both are quite fast.
