The last driver update prior to this one was way back in Nov 2007.

Looks like in addition to supporting the new larger ITM 1 and 2gb modules for Montevina, there are a lot of bugfixes, all listed in the link above. I'd try it out but I already removed my Turbo memory module a couple of weeks ago after seeing no performance benefits and more crashes due to it or its driver.

If you still have your ITM module installed, give the new driver a whirl and let us know!

***EDIT: seems like there may be some driver problems still due to BSODs at installation - see posts by Channelv below***

It looks like the old TM driver was even more bug-ridden that I thought.

I was looking for a driver update for a LONG time, then a couple of weeks ago I just gave up and removed the Turbo Memory module from my laptop. After looking at the changelog and release notes online though, I think I'm going to have to give it a try again. It looks like there were two driver version changes since the last driver was posted in November, but for some reason Intel didn't post one of the new drivers. Probably because there was an issue with that driver which was then fixed with the one available now. I'll try it out later this afternoon. Everyone post back with findings.

It sure didn't before that's for sure. It caused more BSODs and crashes too, which is a double whammy. This is why we're a bit excited about the new driver because most of the problems have been support/driver related. So we'll see how it does now that Intel has had 8 months since the last driver was released to update and get this one working well. We're waiting for people to post back results to see if it got any better - but honestly the likelihood is probably that it still won't have any noticeable gains (especially when you look at the specs of the people who posted here, all higher end notebooks with plenty of RAM already). But we'll see!

ooooookayyyyyy well...that was a SCARY experience for me trying to install the new driver. The system BSOD'd on install, then when I tried to reboot it and reinstall the driver it seemed to go ok, but when rebooting the computer just ended up in an endless loop rebooting over and over no matter if I picked safe mode, command prompt etc. This was BAD because I have papers due today for my graduate MBA program on my hard drive!!!!! And I don't have an external 2.5" SATA enclosure or what not to transfer files. Well luckily picking last known good configuration at boot worked (Even though i have system restore disabled!), and I'm able to work on my papers due today. I won't fudge around with the driver again until I get my papers done.

SHEESH what a headache! I also noticed that the Matrix Storage Manager included with with the new 1.6 drivers for ITM is version 8.1, but the latest version of Matrix Storage Manager on Intel.com is v8.2 which is what I had on my computer prior to trying to install the new ITM driver.

Everyone - did the driver installation work ok for you guys or what??

(If it matters, I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 clean install with SP1 integrated on the dvd)

Don't bother to try installing it.

I installed it on my system. Yes it's working, but it's having the opposite effect on my system. Ever since updating to the new driver, Photoshop CS3 is hiccuping like you wouldn't believe. Every time I save what I'm working on, or it pages out to the hard drive, the system virtually locks up.

I'm uninstalling it now... hopefully I can get my system back to normal. :\

Pretty much. I bought it afterwards to see if it'd make a difference in my system. It was a waste of $30.

I ended up having to uninstall not only the driver, but the matrix storage manager to get my system to behaive like it should. What a pain in the butt! I was finally able to remove the card this go around though. For some reason, every time I tried to remove the physical card in the past, my system would slow to a crawl. It was almost like I could never fully uninstall the blasted software.

It's all good now though.

I installed the new drivers but the reboot hangs for a long time and ends up with BSOD before booting. Blue screen appears for a very short time and I can not see the error message. When I try to boot into safe mode same thing happens after crcdisk.sys loaded. The computer is the Vostro 1500 in my signature. I have returned to the previous driver (after a long and difficult procedure). Has anyone seen this problem?

Okay, i am able to boot with the new drivers. But only if I power off and boot, reboot is not working anymore.

    Just for reference:
    Operating System: Vista 32bit SP1
    Turbo Memory Driver: version 1.6.1.1004
    Vostro 1500 BIOS: A06

My Vostro 1500 with the new drivers is only booting if I power off the computer before rebooting. Did you try this? I am thinking if I should go back to previous drivers again or wait for the next release.

For the ones who are caught in the BSOD loop after installing the latest Intel AHCI/TM drivers (SHAME ON YOU INTEL  ) you do not need to reinstall the operating system. There are several guides on the internet about howto enable AHCI after installing the OS. I did the followings.

    - Disabled AHCI and also TM in BIOS.
    - Booted in the safe mode (yes it boots now :))
    - uninstalled Intel AHCI and TM drivers.

followed the instructions on the following link
    http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=457699&st=25
It refers to XP but for works for Vista as well. I was the Guinea pig to try :)

    - after enabling AHCI and TM again in the BIOS you should be able to boot if you followed the instructions in the link.
    - You can reinstall your favorite Intel drivers now

I tried the instructions in the following knowledge base article from Microsoft with my Vista 32bit system before the method described above. It did not work, YMMV.

The latest Turbo Memory driver, v1.7 which was posted last week, resolves the blue screen during reboot problems in my Vostro 1500. It also integrates the latest v8.5 SATA AHCI drivers. Just to update the thread.
