Hi guys last night i decided to run the Error checking facility on C: that you find under properties. It than said i have to restart my laptop to be able to run which i did. When the machine started up again i started to run and stopped at 2/5 with a file with no real name it said only deleting file 25 from he index. It stopped there for around 1 our before it dropped the whole scan and jumped to Windows. When i got to Windows it said my C: was corrupt and all files on C: is corrupt as well. Most programs still work but down in the left cornet it keeps popping up with files that are now corrupt. Before i did this check my laptop worked fine but now everything seem to be corrupt on C:. Each time i start my laptop it has to do that whole disk check and it stops at the first sand same file in part 2/5 saying its fixing the file than deleting it. Then after 1 hour of deleting it skips to Windows and says all on C: are corrupt. How can i fix this problem. I tried to restore my disk to yesterday but it says it failed and i cant rstore it because C: is corrupt...what do now do?
-
HDD sounds like it's fried physically, if the laptop's still under warranty send it in for a replacement. Another cause could be a virus corrupting all of your files so either a virus scan or HDD reformat might solve your problem.
If both steps fail to fix the problem then it's time to use your vaunted purchasing power and buy yourself one of the high-end gaming laptops to do endless 3dmark06 benchmarks for your personal enjoyment. -
i dont think it is the disk because i can still do everything in Windows. i now did the chkdsk command in command prompt but it stops and says cannot continue in read only mode.
-
I still think something is physically wrong with the disk, if thongs continue windows may not even start. Did you run the virus scan?
-
Yes i did and it found nothing, i know its nor the disk physically because Drive C: and D: is on the same disk and D: works fine.

This has nothing to do with gaming . . . please post in the correct forum next time, thanks.
-
That narrows the problem down to one partition, have you tried 3rd party disk checking utilities to identify the problem?
-
okay Chaz i will,am just so frustrated and i dunno what to do.
Harleyquin07: I have tried Spybot search and destory, disk clean up on properties, Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal and Kaspersky anti virus scan. None of these things helped a bit. Have any tips what i should use or do? -
i am also running Emsa disk check i will report here when its done, on most of the files maybe all on C: it says Warning cant get attributes
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
You've already got several disk checking programs telling you that your C: drive is corrupt, so clearly your C: drive is corrupt. And nothing you do with software is going to fix that.
So reformat that sucker and see if it still gives you errors. If it doesn't, great. If it does, you're probably looking at an actual hardware failure. -
Reformat and see what happens, being a new system I imagine you have all on hand to do. It is easier than hunting down this mysterious problem. Also regardless of what caused you now have corrupted files which adds a whole new layer of potential future problems. So reformat not just because it is the easiest it also the only way to fully restore regardless of what was the original cause.
-
Yes the problem is that i dont have Windows because it came installed on the laptop. So i have to try to fix it myself first if not i will deliver it to some store who can fix it.
-
It should of come with some disks in case this kind of thing happens. If it came with an OS you have a license so make sure. You need the OS and drivers to reformat. And you cannot fix this problem you have corrupted files you can not fix except reformat.
-
i guess i just have to deliver the machine for repair then. I wonder why it happen only becaus i used the Windows disk utility
-
would it help to update my hard disk drivers?
-
I don't think so, I think that could even be a bad idea which I almost never say. But it says corrupted files, I see no way a driver update would address that. But it would not really hurt since you are resigned to sending to shop anyway. Have a go if you wish.
-
I could not find any drivers for my disk. I dont really have time to fix it also at least my computer still works so i can do my job, i just disabled the annoying pop ups. Most programs work the only one who dont is msn messanger. I also cannot delete or copy many of the files on disk C:. I guess ill send it in next week. I have much work to do now, thanks for the help powerpack. rep added

Have you used HP's recovery partition?
Hit F10 on bootup screen(HP/Compaq logo), keep in mind that this completely erases all your data and reinstalls Windows as if it was brand new when you bought it. Yo backup your work and data before doing so. It's probably best to reformat the drive, it could be a corrupt FAT, and reformating the partition creates a brand new one. IT's best to download a disk utility to run surface tests. Do you know what the brand of the drive is? Use HD Tune 2.55 to get the model number, then google it. -
if u mean my disk its a Fijitsu MHY2120BH. So that F10 boot setup is the same as formating the disk right? Problem is that i dont have a windows XP cd. I also donloaded a disk utility it found no errors but many files was unreadable.

Download Fujitsu's Diagnostic Utility,
http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/computing/storage/hdd/support/utilities.html
Run some tests there and see if there are any errors. -
what happens if i enter properties on my disk from control panel\device manager There i can choose to quick format it. Everything will be deleted then right just like a normal formate session?
Edit: thanks ill run some tests
Edit: running Windows Diagnostic Tool Ver. 1.0
(For IDE/ATA Hard Drives) short test.
Result: Model Name : FUJITSU MHY2120BH
Serial No. : K410T7B2E0BA
Firmware : 890B
Total LBA : DF94BB0 h
Test Name : Short Test
Result : PASS
Test Time : 01:20:12, February 23, 2008
Edit: Trying the 1 hour long test now.
Are there any other programs there that might help? -

Do you believe the F10 thing will work? Is there a risk i break my drive even more? This is my job laptop and a need it 10 hours a day o be able to do my job. If it breaks am dead meat. Is there a chance the F10 can restore everything to work normal again?

I talked to HP\Compaq support
They told me this
1. Restart the notebook.
2. Press F11 at Compaq Logo flash screen.
3. Click Yes to boot into recovery partition.
4. Select PC recovery option and then click Next.
5. Click Ok to access recovery menu
6. Click Advanced for more recovery options or click next to recover the system without data loss.
7. Wait until backup, installation and user and data recovery is complete.
8. After completion of the process, Restart removing any CDs in the drive.
They told me i dont need Windows XP cd to do this is that true because i dont have the CD. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
You don't need the XP CD to run the recovery partition. But the recovery partition will (usually) simply restore your laptop to its factory settings, bloatware and all included which is why most people try to get an XP disk instead.
-
yeah but the bloatware can simply be deleted easy right?
-
and would i need to install all drivers again? and would i need to download windows XP SP2 again?
-
anyone know?
-
-
When i press F11 nothing happends lol... i guess ill contact support team again.

Taken directly from HP's website:
Recovering during startup
Use the following steps to perform a recovery from the hard drive :
- Backup files from the My Documents folder and from other folders you may have created.
- Disconnect all connected devices (such as the Personal Media Drive, USB drives, printer, and fax), remove media from drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord.
- Just after the first screen appears (the logo screen), press the F10 key repeatedly until a recovery menu appears.
- Select one of the following procedures, depending on which recovery type you want to perform:
- To perform a standard system recovery, click Next , and then click Yes .
- To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced , (select Destructive Recovery ) and then click Next .
CAUTION: A destructive recovery will format the hard drive. This will delete all the information on the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP and the original software that came with the computer . - Read and respond to each window and screen that appears.
- After the System Recovery is complete, the computer restarts and continues into Windows setup. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.
NOTE: It may take a long time to complete Windows setup. This time varies and may take over several hours, depending on the amount of files that were stored in the user account folders (for example, My Documents and the Desktop). - Before using your computer, update and protect your computer. For more information, refer to Things To Do After Performing a System Recovery in Windows XP .
- Reinstall applications that you added after purchasing the PC, and any files you need from backup.

damn i dont have a recovery partition on my laptop the techs of HP told me lol
-
Wow, well tell them to send you a Recovery CD/DVD then. How can you recover the operating system without a recovery partition and without disks? I mean I can figure out ways to reinstall Windows, but that's way beyond a normal user would be able to do.
