Well my mom just bought a new HP dv6000 from Circuit City last weekend and I noticed it to be a little slow. She herself didn't notice as compared to her last laptop was a godsend. The specs are as follows:

    160GB Hard Drive
    AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 (1.90 GHz)
    2 GB RAM
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Nvidia 7150?

Her CPU usage ranges from 100% to 60% just when Office Picture Manager is searching her hard drive for photos. I don't think that's normal for a brand new computer but came here to check for anything info about it. Using aero features (window key+ shift) also seems a little sluggish. Lastly, HP Pavillion dv6000 is what I thought this computer was, and it even says it on the top of the screen, but Vista reports it as a dv6500? Santa Rosa?

Anyways, just wanted to check if these results are normal with these specs. Thanks!

Two things, what is your HDD's speed? Also Vista does a lot of work when new trying to figure out your habits so as it can respond faster in the future. So I am not suprised. Don't worry yet. Give it time.

you need to do a fresh clean install, i did it with my friends dv6000 a month after he was using it with hp installed vista and he said it felt like 10x faster.

hp uses alot of crap....to slow down the pc

While what you said will not hurt, it will not help with his problem. It is not his "bloatware" his CPU usage is Vista trying to get to know you!

Basically it means you wipe your drive (format your drive) and install the OS again. Thus you're sure it's just your OS on your drive and not any bloatware or remnants of bloatware.

Vista can take a few days to settle down if options such as Indexing and Prefetch are enabled. You've already noted Office Picture Manager searching everywhere for photos. That can bog down the machine until it is done. Do you need it? Personally, I turn Indexing off but let the other performance-enhancing facilities run.
