I am purchasing a new HP laptop. We will use it for internet, MS Office (Word, lightweight Excel), and downloading and editing digital photos using Adoble Photoshop Elements 2.0

The laptop comes standard with a 250GB SATA HD, with option for 350HD SATA HD for $51. Is it worth it to go with the larger HD right now?

    Thanks.

It really depends on your use, but 51 dollars for 100gb upgrade seems a bit off? Is it the same speed (RPM)?

But if the money isn't the problem, then having an extra space doesn't hurt.

If you're going to store lots of files, 320GB is worth it.

    Maybe its a 320GB 7200RPM one?

Yeah, $51 bucks is a little high IMO.
You could get the stick one with it, sell that one, and buy your own 320GB for like $65, but in the end you probably will save 20-30 dollars. :p

Of course only if you need the space. if you dont, dont get it.
but if you do, and you dont feel like upgrading it yourself, just buy in in CTO. :)

Get the smaller one. For $50 you can get one more disk. Check if your laptop can accomodate a second disk.
If you want the extra capacity you will be even better selling the 250GB one and replacing it with a 500gb.

Get the 250GB one. It may be a single platter. Good for silence, seek times and power consumption.

It's thru Costco.com. Both HDs are 5400 rpm, not exactly high speed. Perhaps the 250GB would be better, then upgrade to larger capacity and higher speed..............

Well if you have a lot of files then I would go with the higher. Also don't forget that the hard drive always has less gbs then what it usually advertises, Example, I bought a laptop with a 500gb hardrive and it came with only 451 and about 40 gbs were already used up.

Stick with the 250 GB one. Upgrade in the future to a 7200 RPM HDD
