    Hi.
I want to change my Intel 520 SSD 120gb to a new 200gb (++) SSD. I was thinking of the "OCZ SSD Vector Series 2.5" 256GB", do anyone here know if it will fit? Are there any errors with the "Indilinx Infused Barefoot 3" compared to Sandforce?

Hang on.... I think the Samsung SSD 840 PROSeries 256GB 2.5" looks perfect!

The 840 Pro is having a bit of teething problems and thus reliability is in question. Never be a paying beta tester for a first-gen product ;)

I also wouldn't consider OCZ due to their spotty history in the SSD market. Not only that, but their customer support isn't very good either (so I hear).

I'd recommend considering the Crucial M4, Samsung 830, whatever models Plextor is selling now, or even another Intel 520 (bigger capacity, of course).

There are no issues with Samsung 840's public release. Those issues were limited to pre-production firmwares where reviewers got access to. Retail drives were all shipped with a later firmware, please verify that before saying there are teething issues...

Anandtech admits their mistake in creating the "fiasco"

AnandTech - Samsung Explains The Firmware Bug Causing The Failures of SSD 840/840 Pro

Notice the bold text, every word in it. ALL review samples.

Also if cloning software's a consideration (for ease of transfer), Samsung Data Migration tool by Clonix is far more superior and easy to use than the latest builds of Acronis's cloning software. Intel SSDs come bundled with Acronis. Norton Ghost is many times worse than both of these.

I used that for 2 830s I own, ghost failed terribly on the second drive but it was ok on the first, when Samsung Data Migration had compatibility for 830, it worked on this SSD like baws... I'm literally copying and pasting, then safely removing my SSD, putting it in the laptop without a hitch, starts up right at the first time it was placed in the system.

Especially on ghost, it will break your Master Boot Record so it doesn't startup normally (Repair with windows repair disc), sector by sector copy means your entire OS partition has to be smaller than the SSD size (Then again windows disk management would refuse to shrink a drive even when there's plenty of empty space)..

But again, Samsung Data Migration currently has compatibility even with 830s.

Samsung 840 Pro, 830, Intel 520 are all viable buys. If you're looking on the value-for-money line, Crucial M4, Samsung 840, Intel 330 are probably the ones you'd want to look at.

PS: If you really want a bigger SSD but you don't have that kind of $500+ budget, the 512/500GB variants of Crucial M4 and Samsung 840 can be real bang for buck buys during sales promos. So far I've seen a bare drive Samsung 840 (standard) go at $300 on Newegg near thankgiving and about $320 on other sales ocassions. I believe the Crucial M4 512 was approx $300 also during the recent Crucial-Amazon sale.

Thanks for the answers! Think I go for the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (priced $300 in Norway).

I have now installed Smsung 840 Pro.
But I see my Intel 520 had a plastic spacer so it became 9mm.
The Samsung is just 7mm. Anyone know where I can buy a small spacer for the Samsung?

Btw. Samsung 840 is performing excellent! Getting 8,1 on score in Windows 8 :)

You don't necessarily need to buy a spacer for it. You can just get some cardboard and add it to the drive so that it becomes 9mm tall.

If your Sager comes with a mounting bracket (and the 840's mounted to it), it doesn't matter if there are spacers or not. If there's nothing to mount the 840 pro on, then you probably could take a cardboard like what the above poster has mentioned.
