Hey guys,
I've just read about new Harddrives from Western Digital.
Its supposed to be 2.5 inch model called WD S25 with 10 000 RPMs
in 150GB and 300GB capacities with support of 3Gb/s and 6GB/s SAS interfaces.
Does anyone have any pictures or any real HD tune benchmarks?
I wondered if worth over curentlly the fastest Seagate 7200.4 drives , of course it depends on price tag.
Thank you![]()

FYI, Its not for laptops(most likely for blade servers that also take 2.5in hdd)...According to the specs, it has a 15mm height(laptops usually can only accommodate 9.5mm high hdd...and the power dissipation are another issue(if you could even fit it in a laptop and make it power on, you will lose a good deal of battery life):

there is no 12v rail on 99.9%% of laptops so no it wont work even if height and interface were not an issue.

SAS is not backwards compatible with SATA.
You need a SAS controller, either onboard dedicated, or a PCI-X/PCIe SAS controller.
Your system will not recognize the harddrive if you try plugging in a SATA cable. Heck, you wont even be able to connect it through a SATA cable, since the port is different.
There is no laptop on the market with SAS, so dont even think about it.
My homemade laptop has SAS, but why bother with a 10K SAS drive, when 15K SAS drives are available
