Hey, I'm looking for a light but reasonably fast external drive for my new laptop. The laptop has an internal 160gb 7200 for games, essential software, and music. But I just need a backup drive that wont be difficult to lug around and to maybe watch a few movies, tv, and to throw every useless thing I download onto. I like WD and trust the brand, of course I'm not opposed to Maxtor, and prefer seagate. I have bestbuy gift cards and will be purchasing the drive there, so if any of you know of any deals, please do tell. The one I'm eyeballing is the Western Digital 5400 - My Passport Elite 320GB External USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive. Let me know if you guys think that's a good choice and if you know of upcoming sales.
    -Much appreciation,
    Stephen

The native speed of the WD 320GB HDD will be faster than the speed of the USB 2.0 interface. If you want more speed then you need to look for something with an eSATA interface.

See this thread for a comparison between USB 2.0 and eSATA performance (for a Fujitsu 320GB - similar performance to the WD).
