    Hello,

I've bought a new external LCD monitor (an Asus VW195D) for my notebook as the screen has inexplicably stopped working properly. Everything works perfectly except for one thing.

Say I'm on a website that has a black or dark background (e.g. Mandolux) I can clearly notice the background of the website 'flickering' like some interference lines. The most accurate way of describing it is that it resembles water ripples but completely uniform straight lines. I've just set my desktop background to completely black and there's no problem. On the main Counter Strike Source screen I can see these interference lines but they move a lot slower than the ones I see on websites.

Is this something to do with my refresh rate?

    Thanks in advance.

set the resolution of the monitor .so that the the images should be clear.

try to download the driver and installed it.

graphics driver is not working properly.

I don't think its down to the graphics driver and its running at its native resolution. Maybe its the VGA cable? Anyone shed some light?

You might also try using a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter temporarily to plug it in. If the problem is a ground loop that should fix it.

Could you explain what you mean by a 3 prong to 2 prong adaptor? Cheers

Its the little (usually orange or grey) adapter that you can use to remove the ground wire and plug an appliance that has 3 prongs on the cord into a two hole electrical socket. They cost about $0.50 at a hardware store. You probably have some in your tool shed or kitchen. Its not a computer specific thing.

edit: If you have more than one electrical circuit in your house, you can try plugging the monitor into one circuit and the computer into the other. That would also break any ground loops. I just don't like tripping over cords.

Hmmm I'll give that electrical circuit trick a go, cheers. And thanks for clearing up what a 3 prong adaptor was :) I thought you were referring to the VGA cable. Btw would buying a higher quality VGA cable make any difference? The one that came with the monitor is noticeably less chunky than the one my mate is using on his laptop?

This screen flickering issue seems to be dependent on what's on-screen. Right now, typing this post, the screen is fine, but if I go on a website that has a dark/grey background I can see it clear as day. Also, for any one who's played counter strike, on de_dust2 in CT spawn under the overpass, the screen interference/flickering is so noticeable it's actually distracting.

Thanks for the help so far, cat mom.

You're welcome. Did the adapter work? I don't know if a better VGA cord would help or not. May be someone else can chime in.

I came across this thread while Googling the same problem. Best Foot Forward, did you ever find a solution?
