I'm looking at upgrading the 200Gb 7200RPM drive in my M50SV to a larger drive, and keeping the existing one as a backup, and want to make sure I'm not going to get the wrong thing.

Right now, I'm looking at this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136280

I'm assuming it'll slot straight in, and I just have to format, then reinstall/load image?

And could someone please recommend me a 2.5" enclosure that would be compatible with it, and my existing drive? (If you need to know more detailed specs on the existing drive, just let me know and I'll pull them up.)

I'm running Vista, and possibly Debian soon, if it makes any difference (I know nothing about hard-drives, if you couldn't tell already ;) )

Cheers in advance for any help.

I was looking over the newegg ones and some seemed to say they're limited to drives under a certain size (Gb) and/or speed (RPM)?

Probably true, as the larger ones may need an external power supply or something.

As for upgrading, you will find that a lot of people will recommend the Hitachi 7K500. Since you live in Australia, this may be hard to come, but Staticice.com is your best friend when it comes to this. You will need to type in 500GB along with Hitachi 7K500 though.

Also, good to see another person who lives in Tasmania on this board. I thought I was the only one...

    Cheers, Shadow.

Well, now got a 500GB Hitachi 7K500 on the way (nearly bought the deskstar instead of the travelstar - whoops).

No kidding? So are you north or south?

I'm south. Just down a little past Hobart.
