I just brought a second hand laptop, When I went to buy it the person said
"I had to take out the hardrive for saftey reasons" eg: bank details and personal information. It seemed strange but I brought it anyway.
So i brought a new hdd and a copy of windows xp. What do I do after I install the new hdd do I need any extra software? Can I just put in xp cd and install it? Will it still have all the features of the laptop installed on it?
sorry for so many questions![]()

Well if you format the harddrive with windows xp, then the harddrive will have no programs. You are going to have to source and install the prgrams which you use.
Installing XP is a snap, just put the disk in the cd drive, then boot to cd and it installs.

More importantly make sure you have all the drivers you will need. I believe you will need to slipstream or use a floppy to install major drivers, then after that a cd for the rest. Try the original cd's or manufac's site for em.

Can someone please tell me which drivers I need to install? I found a site where I can download all the drivers but having trouble finding which ones i kneed?

i think you should at least tell us what model do you have

What laptop did you buy? Of course Audio and Video drivers, wireless most pieces of hardware. At some point you can look at Device Manager to see what is and is not working. Unless you get MFG info or disk some level of hit and miss searching for them.

The driver collection on that website is incomplete (most seem to be for Vista 64) and you may find something better at another Acer regional site. Perhaps the best place to ask about the drivers is in the Acer forum.
Alternatively, if you you can work out the hardware from the specs and listed drivers, go to the concerned manufacturers sites. eg Intel for the chipset, VGA, network and wireless.
The aspect most relevant to this thread is that the specs indicate that the HDD is SATA (now the most common type) and not IDE.
