Hey guys, just wondering how the new intel "core solo" 1.66ghz cpu not the duo compares to the previous generation intel sonoma processors if so which one is it directly comparable to.

    Thanks in advance

    Adnan.

I'd say that a higher-clocked Sonoma would outperform it.

They're essentially will perform about the same. However, the 1.66 does have some big advantages over its older kin - a more efficient design (supposedly) and a faster, 667MHz FSB speed.

Hey, thanks for the reply Chaz and Amd, but you see i went down to my local mall to the dell kiosk and they said i could trade in my xps gen 2 for a 9400 with a 7800 for only $350 extra. I was wondering if the core solo 1.66ghz is comparable to my 1.8ghz sonoma. which i pin modded to 2.00ghz. But im only concerned about the fact that if the 1.66 solo was slower than my 1.86 at stock settings. And chaz what you think about the deal? only 350 cdn extra, is it worth it?

    Thanks

    AWP :p

It doesn't sound like that bad of a deal to me, the 7800 is a very nice card, what do you have in the XPS a 6800? $350 isn't that bad, if you could get a Core Duo for a little more ($75 or so), I would try for that. The Core Solo is essentially a crippled Core Duo, with one core shut off.

yeah i have a 6800 ultra in my xps but honestly i think its a tad to flashy, i mean its cool looking and all but i cant take it to work it makes me look like a goof. :p umm well they wont let me change the processor, the core solo is the only one i get with 2gb of ram and i checked with them today its not 350 its only $250 extra.
So do you think the core solo 1.66 is comparable to my 1.8 ghz sonoma in terms of playing games not multitasking cuz i have my desktop for that.

I think the Sonoma would be a better bet...less power consumption from what I have seen speedstep which is available in both, but I think I would go with the 1.8 Sonoma.

Yeah, I would probably just keep it, the difference won't be that noticable in regards to the better video card.

Unless the i9400 has a Core Duo, I wouldn't upgrade.

The Go7800, unless you overclock it, is slower than the Go6800 Ultra in your XPS.

    I'd stick with the XPS.
