I received a new keyboard yesterday. Unfortunately the keyboard is not functioning properly. Most key's aren't working at all and the ones that are have different functions than labeled. e.g When i press v it will type x. I have switched the wires around and triple checked that everything was plugged in correctly. I'm pretty sure i have the latest BIOS.
Anyone know what the problem is here?

Probably a defective or incompatible keyboard.
Have you checked what keyboard language layout you have selected as the default for your operating system? If you have a US keyboard and your keyboard is set to another language, pressing one key might result in another being displayed.
The keyboard connector (ribbon cable) should only be inserted one way on the motherboard. It shouldn't work if it is switched around so I am not sure what you mean by switching the wires around.
One piece of advice, buy a GENUINE laptop keyboard from a reputable seller. There are cheap, non-genuine keyboards for laptops coming from China. -
Thanks for the reply.
The keyboard default language is set to united kingdom extended. Both the old and new keyboard have uk on them so that shouldnt be the problem.
I did infact get a genuine keyboard from the people that i got my laptop from.
If you have any further suggestions they would be greatly appreciated -
