I just got a killer deal on eBay for a new 850 Pro SATA III 512GB ($250). I plan on using it in conjunction with my Samsung 830 256gb on a new Sager machine I will get in the next week. My first question is would this be a good setup?? My second question is which hard drive would you install the OS and the most used programs? My brain tells me the new 850 Pro, but my brain has failed me before.
I want to wipe the old SSD, would you just suggest downloading Samsung's software and doing it that way? Thanks for the help, and I apologize for my newbie-ness.

I hope you're not being serious by asking which should you use as your OS drive between an 850 PRO vs 3 generation old 830

Fine here you go:
1) Install the OS on the new 850 PRO
2) As soon as you get to Windows, install Samsung Magician and go to Over Provisioning and do a custom OP of at least 20% or 30% if you know you don't need the space
3) Apply Samsung Magician's OS Tweaks (Reliability strongly favored over performance as the performance is really the same but reliability tweaks disable useless stuff like Indexing, Superfetch, hibernation, etc)
4) connect your 830 then use Magician to do a secure erase, do not attempt to format it with anything but Magician's secure erase.
5) If I were you, I would place all my drivers + software installation setup EXEs on the 830 where they would simply be used to install the programs but install them on the faster 850 PROgoldenglove2 likes this. -

I appreciate the step-by-step guide. That is exactly what I need.

Highly recommend to not run or use Magician for anything other than firmware updates on Samsung SSD's. If the SSD does not have/need a new firmware; don't even install Magician. Simply a Samsung virus.
OP before you install the O/S (Advanced setup).
Disabling Windows services is simply crippling the system you depend on day to day. And does nothing for a modern SSD, performance or longevity wise.
