now that new Montevina processors are coming up this May with the new platform to that handles higher clocked FSBs, how are they different as compared to what we have say Santa Rosa?

EDIT: I just found that these new platforms can also handle DDR3 RAM Chips also @ higher clocked frequencies which supports @ DDR2-667, DDR2-800, DDR3-800 and DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM.

so with all that kind of new and imrpoved frequencies in mind, how will (in the overall sense) increase your machine's performance drastically, or just a tinnie tiny bit of improvement, or should we just stick to what we have?

I do not know any inside info. But because NewEgg only has DDR2. I don't think they will release with faster RAM at first (they might, only the OEM will have. Very expensive). So waiting is the same game we all have played. The front side bus will improve memory bandwidth. I have 1600Mhz FSB and it does help RAM bandwidth. Be carefull, all the cookies will not be released with the first version of the new platform.

To a large degree it will depend on what you are doing, but most likely you won't even notice it.

If you already have a laptop that is relatively new and uses the Santa Rosa platform then I would say NO.

But if your in the market for a new laptop then why not wait a few months and get the newest in hardware. Especially since its a platform that most future hardware by intel/nvidia will support natively.

Completely depends on what you're buying. If you need a top of the line notebook to game on for example, then a M15x with the neccesary upgrades is going to be top of the line, in two months for example when the M860TU comes out (I think that's the 15.4") chances are the difference isn't going to be insanely significant. If it was enough to render the M15x no longer the champ of 15.4" or atleast at the same level of the new sager/clevo good chance they'd have planned a re-designed version of the M15x in my opion. Since if AW isn't the champ or on the same level as another competitor people wouldn't be so eager to buy them.

So the most I can say, if you want it now get it now. But if you always wait you'll never get a laptop. Once Montevina comes out you may say, oh I'll wait for DDR3 ram to be more available, etc., etc..
