I would like to swap out the network card in my wife's laptop to a better/faster one.
She has a Compaq Presario CQ60-419WM with a 802.11b/g card in it. I would like to remove that card and put in a 802.11n(draft) card so she could get a bump up in speed.
What would a good card be that will work with her computer?

    Thanks,

    Steve

How will she get better speed with a new card?

Is she at the limits of the wireless router?

Is the signal going through many walls?

Is there a lot of interference from microwaves and cordless phones in the area?

If she wants the internet to speed up; you'll both be (mostly) disappointed with a new card.

If she wants file transfers to speed up (within your network); then you will see a speed increase, but only when you're within a few feet of the router (which needs to be 'N' too, of course).

    Good luck.

What router do you have and what is your internet speed?

Forgot to mention, the router is a Netgear WNDR3400. Time Warner Road Runner service.

My laptop and my daughter's laptop are both connected at 300mbps using n cards, while her's is only connected at 54mbps since she is using a b/g card.

Doubt you'd notice a difference in internet speed since your connection wouldn't be above 54Mbps.

Just using Speedtest, my laptop is over twice as fast as hers.

A new network card is only like $30, so it's a small cost to find out.

If you're not using the exact same hardware configured exactly the same way (O/S + apps), then your comparisions are not meaningful.

So does anyone have a good recommendation to a card that will work in her computer?

Not sure if I can just grab one off of eBay and it will work, or if I have to get a specific one to work with her system.
