Say that I buy a new computer like the Asus A8JP with 2x512MB ram sticks. Then I want to upgrade that and purchase 2 x 1GB to replace them.

    Well, I also have a 4 year old Toshiba Satellite 5205-S703 (Pentium 4-M) with 2 x 256MB ram.

Can the discarded ram from the new Asus be used in the old Satellite - understanding that the old computer could not use all the speed of the new ram. Just wondering if it's compatible at all.

If this is something that needs to be looked up, a link would be fine too. Thanks!

If they both use DDR1 200pin sodimms and your putting ram ratted higher or the same then it should be fine.

Asus A8JP uses DDR2 PC25300 and Toshiba Satellite 5205 uses DDR PC2700, which is NOT compatibe.

Thanks so much, netbrakr. That would have taken me a while to figure out since I don't know the terminology. A +rep for you!
