I've decided that my Laptop (in my sig) needs to be replaced. I've done clean installs of Windows 7 and Ubuntu, and I get very similar long-lasting hardware hiccups on both OS's. Anyway, I will be looking for a laptop in August that will have excellent gaming performance and a long battery life, as well as a very decent processor.

Long story short, are there any new hardware releases I should be looking for, or will I still be looking at something around an i5 or an i7 with a GTX 260M or similar? Thanks in advance for your input.

    P.S.
I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking with a Windows machine. I'd rather get a baller rig for less than a MacBook Pro (they look sweet, though).

Your machine does not look bad at all... Just increase your RAM to 4GB and replace your HDD with 7200RPM one (or even better, with an SSD). That should run Win7 like a breeze...

I actually do have 4GB, and I had a 7200RPM drive in a while ago. I used to run everything perfectly, but I think my hardware in general is failing. I'm getting graphics freezes, USB freezes, Wifi freezes, DVD freezes, and my battery and charger are shot.

I feel like I'm to the point where I'd rather just buy a new system. Plus, I could always use a graphics bump.

Look for refreshed Arrandales, they will be more power efficient than current Core i5/i7's.

Look for Nvidia GeForce 400 Series graphics with Optimus and from ATI, the 5000 series.

58xx cards are the 'big thing' right now since they are native dx11/GDDR5... since they just recently updated the dx/gddr level it won't happen again for ~2 years, so the next 'big' thing will be mobile fermi cards in (maybe) late Q4. If you are waiting til august ati might push the 59xx series in Q3, dunno if you'd be willing to wait it out for a fairly minimal increase over 58xx though.

58xx and icores are pretty future friendly though I agree you could wait for refreshed arrandales.

Prices are always falling, whether or not there will be a significant drop, probably not. Typically prices for the "new" stuff doesn't change much, just the products get updated and replace the current products.

if ur going to wait till Oct , u might as well wait till next year... Snady Bridge , SATA 3 support and 32mm quads come out.. i would personally just get a new laptop now.
