Ok, now i have an acer aspire one zg5. I got it about 5 years ago. It used to work until one day my dog pulled the power cord out of the computer and it completly shut off i tried to restart it but it keeps checking the the hard drive and system files. So i finaly rupped it open and followed a guide on youtube on how to replace the hard drive. Well there is no hard drive at all. Any insight would be great guys or direct me to the right thread please. Thanks in advance!

If that is what I think it is... it has a small SSD inside instead and an ordinary hard drive wouldn't even fit (needs different bottom cover). Those were linux machines, is yours too?

That could be just a corrupted OS but if it is Linux I have no idea how to fix it :p

That model should have a 160GB HDD inside.

Are you looking in the correct compartment? Possibly under the keyboard or M/B (depending on what you're able to disassemble)?

I have no idea but i looked on youtube and disassembled as they did and there was no hard drive where it was supposed to be. I can have the while computer disassembled in less then 10 mins its so small but the computer worked and then it had a sudden shutdown and just keeps trying to reboot. I will try and put images up of where its supposed to be and even a video of what it does but that may be a few days. Because the phone i am using wont upload. I will try and get a link up yo the youtube video i watched. But any other ideas? Like a picture of the hard drive that is in the acer aspire one zg5 model blue in color?

image.jpg thats my bottom case, nothing there either. Im stumped. Frim my knowledge, this computer had never been taken apart before i had gotten it, once the problem happened it had been put up and never touched. I asked someone about it and they said they knew about computers and all that mumbo jumbo but from what i know they never had it in their hands. And also. I dint think computers work without hard drives at all do they?

At 5 years it may be worth consider replacing it. If not now, certainly in the near future.

The only thing my 5 year old HDX is good for is MS Office, browsing, and watching movies. Of curse it can do the most basic cut editing, but I passed that stage long ago. After i7 and SSDs you never want to go back.

Speaking of SSDs you may want to consider at leas replacing your HDD with one.

    Yes - a new drive doesn't come with an O/S pre-installed.

What if the hard drive i have just got corrupted and some files got deleted could windows just be reinstalled and the hard drive be just fine? Or just replace it anyway?

If the drive corrupted some files because of a software issue - then sure, reuse the drive.

If the drive itself corrupted some files; time to replace it.

The problem is, how would you know which scenario it is?

If you already have another SSD - you may as well replace the one with issues now (and if you can prove it is not a hardware problem; reuse it somewhere else).

Exactly. Its not like you won't have a need for it. In fact, for a start, a much needed backup drive comes to mind.

And one more thing, always title your threads with the problem, issue, question, etc. The help part will be obvious, and you'll get more of it that way.
