    Hi All
I have recently bought equipment a Panasonic professionally refurbished CF 29 for my work as I am a breakdown mechanic working on access equipment (Scissor Lifts and Cherry Pickers) and on Building sites and in the middle of nowhere a lot, and nowadays all the Schematics are on line rather than books. It has a 80 GB HD at the moment. I am looking to get a 350 GB HD, I am a bit confused as I have looked about this site about getting a larger HD for this model and it puzzles me that the link I looked at has PATA Connections not SATA? is this correct and can you get a adapter that will fit and work in a CF 29 so I can get a 350GB Solid State HD? I know this is a question that might have been askes a thousand times before but !
you might all be rolling about laughing at what i've asked but when you get yourself off the floor I would like to know :)
    Regards

    Lorrick

There are adapter but it would be useless because the Pata would nerf the SSD to HDD performance levels. So it's better to just get a bigger HDD

Thank you Danishblunt for your reply, I think I get what you are saying?. It would slow the Solid State Drive down to Hard Disc Drive speed so might as well go for a larger Standard Hard Disc.
Is that correct. As I say I fix engines not computers, thanks for the help.

Exacly, the bandwitdh of the Pata is so low that getting a converter to SSD is completely pointless.

The max data transfer rate is around 130MB at best. A typical SATA HDD has around ~150. That's already well above the limit.

So stick with a 7200RPM Pata drive.

    Hi Over Tallman
I did have a look through on UK Ebay but I was getting very confused with drive speeds, What IDE, PATA. SATA,SSD, SSHD, CASH, and a lot of other stuff meant, So instead of making a big mistake, that is why I asked the question, as I said somewhere before I fix engines, not Computers. so not really up to speed on it all. I still thought the 486 is the latest upgrade :)

Okay... so you're looking for a 2.5" IDE/PATA hard drive for your CF-29, well I just did a search on eBay UK and there were lots of offers either locally or from China. 40GB-160GB are pretty common, 250GB and 320GB are rarer however they do exist, prepare to fork considerable money though. IIRC 2.5" IDE/PATA 7200rpm HDD tops out at 100GB, anything bigger would be 5400rpm.

I already posted a link with a 320GB drive, 46bucks with free shipping seems alright by me.

Alright, though US$46 seems a huge investment to me considering how old CF-29 is. Oh and don't forget the delivery which can take a long time.

    Hi Danishblunt and Over Tallman
Sorry to take so long getting back to you, I could not get on the site this morning at 4am when on way to work. I have got it sorted now thank you I thought the same $46 then the import duty and VAT. I get a lot of spares from the USA and there does not seem to be a logical way they sort out the import duty and then vat on top. So once I knew what I was looking for I got one from the UK. Thanks for your help. I did take notice of what you both said and I do really appreciate the help.
    Regards
    Lorrick
