Looks like we're finally getting some Quad-core Penryn trickle-down... No word on when we'll actually see these in laptops, but it looks like they're close.

If it fits.. So buying one for my laptop
:EDIT:
"and will hardly be drop-in compatible with current Santa Rosa, or its refresh, platforms."
Aw **** you Intel.. Way'to step all over my plans you bastards.. -
There will be quad cores that will work in your 1520. Don't panic yet!
-
personally i have no interest in a quad in my notebook. i'd be very happy if i could get a dual penryn to go into my current dual santa rosa notebook and even that's doubtful right now. i'm definitely thinking about returning my vostro 1700. i can wait a couple of months to get a notebook which can be upgraded to penryn.
-
12Mb Cache, that's crazy and processor system bus? no more front side bus?
I wonder how these will perform -
They will perform a little better than the current line. It's always a step forward.
-
-
these are for montevina so wont work in the current notebooks with santa rosa chipset. damn....
Best we can hope for is higher clocked penryn santa rosa refresh, Maybe something around 2.98ghz........maybe -
It ought to carry one nice price tag with an "Exteme" label.
-
So what's the point of having all that fuss telling us about Santa Rosa before it came out, and now it is out, Intel presumed to inform us that the laptop you just bought which we had just marketed as "new" was actually nothing worth while.... sigh.

If you could wait till 2009, that's where the great amazement will occur because
in 2009, Intel will sell Nehalem processors with eight cores on a single slice of silicon.
Imagine that!
In 2008, they will sell it with four cores first. -
that so cool. Quad core in a laptop. Too bad it would chew through the battery in my 1420.
-
I noticed it said there was improved Dynamic Acceleration. Maybe we'll be getting a clock multiplier increase of 2 for single-threaded applications now? Sure would be nice - the increase of 1 on the multiplier already is noticeable in benchmarks, but doubling that would of course be better.
Always exciting to see new technology, though for my uses it still makes sense to stay with no more than two cores - somehow I have all the most demanding single-threaded applications and none of the dual-core ones. Now if Intel could make it so a dual-core could use both cores even on single-threaded applications, that would be worth buying. -

We reported on this Sept. 20:

The mobile quad core will come out in Q3 2008 and will only work in select Montevina notebooks. It will be branded as an Extreme Edition too so expect prices to be very high as they always are for Intel processors with that branding.
It is still going to be some time before quad-core replaces the position dual-core holds now in the notebook market.
Of course if you want quad-core in your notebook right now you could try the Clevo D900C. Mobile power to the max. -
would they fit in my inspiron 1520? i just ordered it like 15 minutes ago..haha
