I'm trying to figure out when to buy a new laptop but don't have any info about upcoming processors and chipsets from either company like release date, specs etc?

For AMD im not sure, but it seems Intels Calpella platform is supposed to be released within the next couple of months, and Arrandale is supposed to come out in early '10.

AMD has the Tigris platform launching this fall, which will feature AMD's first 45nm processors along with the 40nm ATI 4000 series graphics. Intel has 45nm Clarksfield launching this fall and 32nm Arrandale launching in Q1 2010.

If you go the AMD route, I agree, wait for this fall's 45nm processors w/ ATI4200m HD possibly? I am personally waiting on an Intel Atom paired w/ GeForce 9400m G which should be due before the year is up??

I am hoping AMD's laptop cpu's are as good as deneb(desktop cpu). If AMD can get Deneb to clock 3.4ghz then they should be able to produce 3ghz dual core for laptop. That could really bring down prices for high end intel cpu's.

But I am not holding my breath in anticipation. AMD for some weird reason never gave laptop that much importance. Otherwise we would not wait more than 9 months since their 45nm cpu's launched.

Calpella will be by early October.

sreesub: It's not that simple. Process technology advantage Intel has is amplified in "extreme" variant of the market segments like ultra low power products and very high end CPUs like Itanium/Xeon MP. Plus, Deneb is similar to Core i7 in terms of power consumption. It'll take them a while to get a dual core optimized for mobile. It took Intel a year for Clarksfield, from Bloomfield, it'll take AMD a year to get a mobile "Deneb" variant from desktop Deneb.
