That's an . . . interesting article, thanks for posting. I may put that in the news bits tomorrow if I need a filler story.

While I do agree that the majority of laptop owners are no closer to being able to upgrade their video cards than they were two years ago, I do think that the article blew the process of updating an MXM video card out of proportion. Not all laptops are like that, and the process they detailed was a special case from my understanding.

That`s pretty much the comment I gave, Out of the few guides on the site, they took the very first one and bypassed all the others. And how they mentioned the Bios upgrade is simply not correct. I clearly stated that it was of no help and therefore not needed.

Or OEM's that want to sell prorietary solutions. But they could do that by modifying reference drivers/apps like various vendors do in the desktop marketplace. That would be a far more effective way of differentiaitng their product, and providing value to the consumer. They normally do some tinkering with drivers with their proprietary solutions anyway.

I was just as surprized by the 'NVidia experts' commentary regarding MXM not being intended for upgradeability (just plain wrong) as [H] was, and I felt like much of the arguements put forth from the 'ATI expert' were simply rediculous. Why should OEM's care about what the GPU design solution "looks like"? As a consumer I could care less what it looks like so long as it's user upgradeable and it works well. Just one example among many.

A laptop is something you are SEEN with outside, this will lead to a much higher proportion of people caring about the looks of the machine.

Actually, that`s one of the parts where I completely agree.
