Just saw a business wire saying Intel had problem with the series 6 chipset which would cost it 300M revenue. My interpretation is that almost all Sandy Bridge models would be halted till April when the fixed chipset resume production.

They're still available on Newegg and at the various laptop manufacturers. Are you sure this is not just what we already know? Intel's chipsets currently support either the proper usage of the unlocked "K" processors or it's integrated graphics -- not both. The chipsets out in April will support both.

Thanks. I wonder if this affects Huron River as well as Cougar Point chipsets.

I suspect they would have mentioned that if it were the case.

If so, this appears to be a problem with desktops only -- laptops do not use Cougar Point (except maybe those Clevo monstrosities).

Are you sure? The HM65/67 and QS/QM/67 are listed as Cougar Point mobile chipsets here:

No, I am not sure. It depends on what exactly is affected and how Intel labels their chipsets.

Intel is in trouble for a while, hopefully giving AMD some much needed time to catch up! I believe this mishap will serve to increase competitiveness in the CPU business.

If it concerns the desktop chipsets, would it be possible that this has some sort of connection with intel acting with the logic of an inebriated irish man regarding the chipset compatibility with the IGP & overclocking ? Ie you can't benefit from the unlocked multiplier on the H67 while the unlocked CPUs are the only ones to have 12EUs. But then you can't use the IGP on the P67. Could this be an intricated way to introduce the rumoured Z68 ?
