I try out a lot of share/free/trial-ware, and sooner or later my HP notebook pays the price. I was using a restore DVD but that left personal/work files, updates and whatnot to deal with.

Now I use this little gadget here http://www.simerec.com

This thing is way fast and way cool - at least on my HP notebook anyway.

that's pretty nifty. now.. i have a question. if you own this device, could you use yours on my computer and have it work properly, so long as your password was inputted? or does it associate specifically with your computer/settings?
i ask because, this would be an invaluable tool to the company i work for doing spyware/virus cleanups, if it doesn't attach to one specific computer.

It leaves files, but it gets rid of programs. The majority of the work after reinstalling XP for me is reinstalling my programs.

$100 for that? Or $10 XP Reinstallation? I go for XP.

One would hope that it would have some sort of list to reference of legit programs to leave, such as Microsoft Office, AIM, Winamp, iTunes, Adobe Acrobat, etc... you know, the stuff nearly every computer user is going to have and want to keep. If it whipes out all programs, then I agree, it's worthless.
