I have a philips freevent x59 laptop. The backlight has gone. I have replaced the invertor with no joy. I was wondering if it was worth trying to dismantle the screen and try to replace the backlight or would it be prudent to just replace the screen. Ive had a look and cant see anyone who sells backlights without having to send off the laptop to be fixed.

i've done this before. what makes this operation a nuisance is that the screen isn't made to be serviceable.
the bulbs are delicate. the foil reflector is flimsy and the inverter wires are thin and must be soldered at the correct angle at both ends. there's also re-taping involving both plastic and metal tape.
is it worth it? like i said, i've done it. go into it knowing you should be good with your hands, you're fairly good at soldering, you like a challenge and it won't hurt to waste some time and money.
the ccfl's are inexpensive but you still have to pay shipping so consider buying a backup. a practice session on your bad bulb might be a good idea too. -
I have managed to purchase a new screen and fitted it fine but there is still no backlight. Any ideas. The invertor was apparently replaced prior to me getting hold of it. Is there anything else that could be causing this issue
No screen backlight
