I'm use to using the desktop pc and shutting down by going to Start => Turn Off Computer => Turn Off. After that, the whole computer would shut off automatically. Is this the same for notebook?

But when I use the same shut off method on the notebook, the screen shuts off but its still on (with light blinking etc). How do I completely shut the notebook off without being in sleep mode or hibernation mode. Do I have to physically push the power button thats on the notebook?

Well if you do it the same way the computer should shut off. It will turn off the screen right before it shuts off by itself and then once the screen is off it fully shuts down.

Also, putting it in sleep and hibernate will be options next to where you would hit the final turn off button.

    Hope this helps! :)

If it s not the battery charging it could be that the computer is asleep.

How i shut mine off? Shut the lid and the laptop automatically goes to sleep.

I shut it down by just pressing the on/off button. Vista shuts itself down.

It took me a few days to figure out that the power button on the start menu of vista is actually a standby mode.

And off topic fabarati, d.a.n.c.e is one of my favorite songs haha

That can be changed, in the advance power options.

And it's one of my favourites too ^_^.

Actually in the power options I can only find options to change what happens when I:
    Close the lid
Touch the power button (the one on my computer not in Vista)
and when I touch the "sleep" button (whatever that is lol)

I don't see any option for changing the button on the Vista Start menu next to the Lock button...

Hmm, I'll have to look into that when I get home from work (in about half an hour), but it should be there somewhere.

Ok, click the battery icon. Then click on more power options. There, click on change plan settings. From there, go to Change Advance power settings. You should find the setting under Power buttons and Lid. It's called Start Menu Power Button.

Read your laptop manual, if the power icon is blinking look for that. It may say charging, etc.

maybe you're on Vista so u go to start and u see the POwer icon and click on that and thinks its shutdown but really you have to go to that little arrow to the right and press that and you'll see the whole list, restart, log off, shutdown, sleep etc.

real quick off topic question wahts better shutting down or putting to sleep?
if thers a thread on this please link me! i got more questions.
