I recently instaled aida64 on my sister's sony vaio which is equipped with an intel N470 processor and it showed 87-93C. I then performed a stress test and in 20 seconds it got from 90C to 97C then I stopped it for fear of damage. I did check notebookcheck and it said there the max temp is 100C.

What is the normal temperature for this CPU ?

I think the laptop still has warranty but I dont know if this is as bad as i think or not.

That's very hot for idle and even for a stress test.
My sister's Asus netbook with an Atom N450 CPU idles at ~60C and goes up to about 80C during a stress test.

Yeah, Sony's, like Mac's, run hot - but that is much too hot.

Could you clean out the vents/fan thoroughly and even take it apart to repaste the cpu?

Dust buildup could be all that is wrong with it and if it is easy (enough) to take it apart, then cleaning/repasting it will be very, very beneficial to the longetivity of this system.

Yes, it is. Tell them that the computer runs hot enough that it throttles which shouldn't happen.
