    Just wondering

Do notebooks use different kinds of CPU's than desktops? Or are they all compatible with eachother...
Sorry if its a stupid question but im planning on getting the gateway P-6831FX and just want to know what I should be looking for. Googling notebook CPU's dosnt come up with anything, but idk if im just missing something

Notebook cpus are different than desktop ones. They are slower usually and consume less power, but in many ways, including architecture they are very very similar to the desktop ones.

Fill out the FAQ about your needs and usage and we can better tell you what sort of cpu you need. But anything that's a core 2 duo nowadays is more than enough and is top of the line when it comes to mobile cpus.

(hed) you should be looking for something like Intel T9300/T7700 if you want to pay around 350$ for a CPU.

Just to clarify Mobile CPU's are not all compatible w/each other. If you are thinking about future upgrade you also have to confirm your notebook CPU is even physically changeable (not soldered to MoBo) the same model can come in two versions one BGA (soldered), PGA (pins, can be removed).

If you know the processor model number, (ex. Intel T7600) type that into google shopping, and you will find a bunch of stores which sell it. Newegg and Zipzoomfly only have a small collection of mobile processors, so you most likely have to buy the laptop processor from a lesser known store such as directron or something like that.
