Hi all,
I'm in the market for a new laptop and I'm just wondering about a few things.
A lot of laptops i'm seeing are Pentium M, rather than Core Duo. I know the basic differences etc, but would I be missing out (be behined the times) by getting a Pentium M?
Also, how flexible the current Core Duo motherboards are for upgrading?
If I get a laptop with a 1.66Ghz Core Duo processor, can it be upgraded to a Core 2 duo(memrom) at a later date?
thanks for reading.

1.) The Pentium M offers great performance at a great price point. That being said, it is not the current technology.
2.) Depending on the laptop brand, the Core Duo should be easily upgraded to Memron. -
It's not MEMRON, it's MEROM! (Just trying to help people who are being confused by different names)

Keeping in mind if it is possible to upgrade it will have negative effects on your warranty.

Thanks for the input folks.
I'm leaning towards a Sony Vaio in the FE series as seen here: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Sony_Vaio_FE_Core_Duo_Laptops/prod.asp
I'm not up to speed on hardware though, so i've no idea if this is upgradable.
cheers,

I would wait a while. If you buy now, then:
1.) You'll probably void your warranty when upgrading to a Merom CPU.
2.) You'll need to pay another $300 or so to get the new CPU, while if you wait just a little while, you can get a laptop with similar specification to the Sony FE but the Merom CPU for around the same price.
Notebook CPU's - Core duo, M etc?
