    Downgrade to windows xp pro.

I recently acquired an HP notebook (2432ca)
    specs:
    Core Duo 2450 (2.0 GHz - 2mb cache)
    2GB @ 667
    160GB drive
    12 cell battery
    intel gma 950
    centrino, blah blah

Oh man did this ever piss me off. Every time I unplugged it, to run on battery life this sound amplified when the computer was idling. It buzzed when the computer was just sitting there doing nothing. Installing RM Clock and clicking a certain option fixed this to an extent - it made the processor run at 100% or so at all times even if I wasn't doing anything - thus disabling the idle state (I guess).

So that worked to a degree, however it didn't sit well with me that my processor was having to calculate even though I wasn't doing a thing with it except sitting there doing nothing. So that pissed me off even more.

Other things that pissed me off was that I used to have a 1.7 GHz P-M Dell laptop and it ran games like need for speed much faster than this new computer despite having 4 times less ram, a smaller hard drive, and a processor and graphics accelerator that was a 945 as opposed to a 915 chipset. NFS ran like ass and I wasnt going to doubt that it had nothing to do with the computer - it had everything to do with Vista.

Vista did not bring much to the table in my eyes. I dont know - I am a home user, gamer what ever you call it. Enthusiast (although not a laptop enthusiast obviously). And I am a student. Nothing about vista enticed me. It came with my notebook. My notebook came with no direction other than DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS XP BECAUSE WE WILL NOT SUPPORT YOUR DECISION -HP THANKS FOR BUYING OUR NOTEBOOK - KISS OUR ASSES.

Sooo what I did was go all over the net looking for drivers that would work in XP. And so I finally downgraded and I now dual boot with Vista and XP PRO. XP handles alot better first of all. With 2 gigs vista is fine but with 1 gig vista handles like ****. Anyway with the gaming performance I saw, I wanted to at least play a game from 2003 with decent frame rates - not slide shows.

So after slipstreaming SP2 into my Winxp disk, I didnt get any errors intalling XP, and I finished configuring the dual boot system. Then I noticed that if I booted back into Vista, that horrible buzzing noise still existed but when I was in XP there was no buzzing at all.

Someone should test this out because alot of people are pissed off about the buzzing, but it only happens for me when Im in Vista.

Uninstall or downgrade out of Vista boot into another operating system - Voila -

I bet a number of people who have these nice new core 2 duo and core duo systems havent even tried going into win xp because all of their notebooks have come with Vista. Its a pretty operating system but honestly ever since XP came out I have been disabling the visual effects which make all of my pcs look like windows 98 to increase performance so i could give a rats ass about the visual enhancements vista has to offer. nothing about it has impressed me in the slightest except the new 3d games that come with windows. minesweeper is so much better now. lol

test it.. please. thanks every body

This is just the proof as how "we people" are blind. When xp came out ppl where furious cursing it saying its crap alot of unstabilities. Not to mention half of thouse ppl where saying that under the so called "fallow the mass" influence. And the win 98 where the pure perfection of running games in, somebody called the 2000 me to be a good choise aswell butt thouse where few.

You need to understand that this is the new os and you like it or not will be forced to have it in a year or so.

Now you all call out vista as pure crap. As we all did xp b4. Use ure logic and see that microsoft will never be stupid enough to produce a inferior OS. Vista is more powerfull then any other microsoft os out there. Especially then the XP. The fact is this is a os transition period where everybody suffers but the mistakes will be patched and tuned and we will all have a great piece of software like xp and 98 was b4.

You say vista sux, downgrade... Thats exactly what you are doing - DOWNGRADING. Hold thight thru the turbulance and wait. If you cant theres nothing bad with going back to XP its just that we all know vista has it issues atm.

    PS Bro,
hopefully when they release a service pack or two which will completely change the operating system (as service packs have done in the past) these issues will be addressed.
Can you explain that in windows vista I have huge buzzing sounds coming from my laptop YET in Windows XP there are none?

Can you explain why my GMA 950 on a system with a dual core, higher MHz better processor as well as 4x the ram (from 512 to 2 gigs) was performing MUCH lower than a p-m 1.7 512mb?
No. You cant. Thats how I measure results pal. Thats fine too if this is a transition period, but at the same time Im not going to be a guinea pig and suffer performance and have WEIRD issues crop up in my brand new computer just because microsoft and oems think its time for a new operating system to reign supreme.

i was oblivious to the rules. i didnt know that you couldnt recommend testing of a theory.
if i am wrong about this then that would be good because that means the problem isnt vista
but if i am right, and it is vista, then is it also the processor idle state? or is it both?
if it is the processor state, then xp isnt putting the processor into the correct idle state?

so many questions must be answered in this case. im just looking for some help here, im not offering an all knowing fix. im prettttttty sure i said can someone test this, at the end of my post
and i also said vote quimby

alright lets not get in to this
if you have nothing to add to this discussion then dont worry about it, obviously youre not having problems with squealing cpu sounds coming from your computer when youre on battery power in windows vista

at least thats what i have deduced, because you dont seem interested at all in what the actual topic of the post is dedicated to
make your own post, i dont care who migrates to vista - i am glad you enjoy windows vista and have your faith in it.

Try this and tell me if it works...

I want to try a fix to see if it works.

Go to control panel/device manager/bluetooth radio/bluetooth (not enumerator)/right click to properties/power management/uncheck Allow the computer to turn off..

Listen and tell me if the whine goes away.

OK, let's look at this. Can Windows XP take advantage of the C4 sleep mode? If not, this would be a valid fix. I don't know the answer; however perhaps someone else does.

The other question that could be asked is, was this noise a problem before Vista came out (excluding Longhorn testers)? If it was, then switching to XP would not be a valid fix.
