Notebook Fan Constantly On and Blowing

Hi there,

So for the last week or so I have noticed that my notebook's fan is always on no matter what task I am doing on the computer - be it browsing the internet or playing games - and I'm wondering if this is bad or if it is ok.

Before this started happening, I remember that the fan would only turn on and start blowing loudly when I was playing games. Now it is always on, no matter what I am doing, and it is starting to get pretty annoying.

Anything I can do about this? Any reason why this could be happening?

PS: I also have a laptop cooling pad, but the fan still blows even when it is on that.

 

Did you upgrade any of your drivers or bios in the last week?

Bios upgrades can have new settings for fan operation.

Also, Video driver software (upgrades) can change your fan turn on/run settings. I had to go back to an older Video driver as a new one I installed from a Windows update caused my fan to run almost continually.

 

The answer is simple: You're running hot. Notebook fans generally don't run for no reason. If you're spinning up, it means some components need their heat dissipated.

Clean out your vents and monitor your temperatures. Give us an idea how hot your laptop is running.

Ha, that's true Here is a free program to monitor your temperatures, post a screen shot. CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

 

Is that idling? If so, that's quite high for CPU idling temperatures, and it's no wonder the fan's on. You may have to partially disassemble your notebook to clean out the fans - there's likely lots of dust caked in there that's making your fan work harder to expel heat.

 

mind you that was just after playing games.
but i'll do that tomorrow and we'll see if it fixes it.
